Chin implants are useful in creating desired facial features. The implants used are made from solid and semi-solid materials. Chin implantation can enhance the contour of your face. Chin implantation can be performed along with other facial surgeries to achieve the desired appearance you are looking for.
Procedure: One incision is made to insert the implant, either inside the lower lip or underneath the chin. No visible scars will be seen if inserted inside the lip; however, a small scar will be underneath the chin if inserted there. Chin shaping takes approximately 1 hour and is performed as an outpatient surgery. The procedure is done with local anesthesia unless performed with other surgeries, in which general anesthesia will be used.
Post-op: Most patients are able to resume normal activities within 1 week. It is normal to feel numbness after the surgery. Sensations will return over several months; however, some diminished feelings may last indefinitely. Shifting of the implant may require a second corrective surgery. Scar tissue surrounding the implant can cause an unnatural shape. During the first week, you may find it difficult to talk and smile. Performing these activities will soon return and you will be able to enjoy your new look.
