By using a CO2, (carbon dioxide), laser facial wrinkles, lip lines, crow's feet, scars, and abnormal pigmentations can be wiped away. This laser treatment removes the top layers of tissue on your skin making you have a refreshing appearance. At Suburban Plastic Surgery we offer the latest laser technology (ELOS) for skin rejuvenation. ELOS uses a combination of radio frequency and light. Use of these two energies means more effective results for the patient with an overall lower energy output. This lower energy means that the treatment area can be isolated and surrounding skin free from potentially harmful side effects. Many patients find that skin care is not enough to achieve optimum skin health and go the next step laser skin rejuvenation. With ELOS technology you can expect your skin to be smoother, clearer, even-toned and healthier looking.

Procedure: The CO2 laser creates a beam of light that vaporizes the upper layers of skin. The laser produces a mild, controlled burn. New skin cells will develop and a fresh layer of skin develops. The time the procedure takes depends on the area of the skin being resurfaced. It may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Most cases are performed with a local anesthetic in the office.

Post-op: You should wait 7-10 day after the surgery to resume your normal daily activities. Complications with this procedure are rare but do include; burns, scarring, change in coloring of skin. Laser skin resurfacing can activate herpes and other infections. After the procedure, it is common to have flaking and swelling. Ice can be used to reduce the swelling and the doctor can recommend an ointment for the flaking skin.
